Statement of Belief
While working on my PIF and other paperwork through the PC (USA), I had to write and defend this Statement of Belief. I can confidently say, I believe every word written here.

God is a triune being. In three persons, God exists as Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer of all things. These three persons of God are one being that is above all, in all, and through all things. God cannot be contained by our human knowledge and is transcendent of gender, form, and time. The three persons of God create a perfect Trinity.
God the Creator, created everything seen and unseen. God created humans in God’s image out of love for God’s creation. There is nothing humanity did to deserve the incredible love that was shown in creating humanity. There is nothing that will ever repay God for creating humankind. Humanity is called, by God, to constantly work toward justice, goodness, and a humble walk with God.
Humanity works toward that call with the help of God the Redeemer in Jesus Christ. Jesus came to humanity as a baby and lived as a fully human being even as a fully divine being. Jesus felt the struggles of humanity and lived a life that we know is the perfect example of how to live. We fail to meet this example. However, because of Jesus’ divinity and humanity, Jesus died, atoning for our sins, and was resurrected. As God’s chosen people, we are shown love and grace through Jesus’ death and resurrection, and we know that that love and grace are unending and cannot be repaid or lost.
As humans, we encounter God in our daily lives by God the Sustainer in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is around us and in us at all times and connects us to the prophets of the past, the entire body of Christ, as well as the future Church. Through the Spirit, we can be sure that God is currently with us, invested in our lives, and leading us along a path of faith.
Scripture of the Old and New Testament was written by human hands, led by the Spirit. Scripture is inspired; we trust in the Spirit to lead our interpretation and reading of the scripture in our current contexts. God’s Word holds authority in our lives through the written Word of scripture and the Living Word of Jesus.
The Church’s mission is vitally important to the life of believers and how we interact in the world. The mission of the Church is to follow the path that Jesus has set before us and love other people as God loves us. This call for grace for all people has been assigned by Christ to be carried out by the Church.
The sacraments of baptism and communion are given by God, instituted by Jesus, and carried out by the Holy Spirit. Baptism creates a bond throughout time and space that brings us all into the body of the Church. In communion, we remember Christ’s sacrifice, continuously promise ourselves to God, and reaffirm our faith.
